Safety

Eliminating safety hazards during a controlled drill
Members of the MRM Mines Rescue Team during their winning performance in the Northern Australian Rescue Competition

We work to eliminate safety incidents in the workplace by identifying, assessing and, where reasonably practical, eliminating or otherwise controlling hazards. We do this through our leadership, management standards, safety systems, engineering standards and behavioural programs to ensure our employees make the right decisions to remain safe as they carry out their work. An equally important aspect is ensuring effective leadership in safe working procedures from our managers and supervisors.

Eliminating fatalities and serious injuries is our key safety challenge, with a particular focus on the following hazards:

  • mobile equipment
  • work methods
  • equipment failure
  • fall of ground
  • electrical hazards.

Some of the specific programs we have implemented at MRM include:

  • comprehensive safety management procedures including requirements for personal protective equipment
  • workplace safety observation and inspection system
  • injury management system
  • leadership coaching in managing safety performance
  • safety leadership program.
